My students are enthusiastic and eager to learn, yet highly hesitant. They attend a Title I, public high school in a neighborhood characterized by high levels of poverty and violence. Despite their seemingly endless commute to school, they come early to class ready to learn. Coupled with their enduring reality is a differing ability label which places them as targets in the school, both inside and outside the classroom. My classroom is a space where they feel safe to take learning risks.
