My students are enrolled in a tuition-free charter school and come from 4 diverse communities within a 1-mile radius of each other. One of our sending towns has declared bankruptcy and has been struggling to keep its public library open and free to the public. Our student demographic is hugely diverse in terms of socio-economic status, race, and ethnicity. Over 60% qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch and about 40% are ESL students. Most of our students enter our middle school reading significantly below grade-level. Through an extended school day and a dedicated teaching staff, we aim to create rich learning experiences for our students and to prepare 100% of them for academic success in college and beyond.
