I teach pre-k in a public school system in Louisiana. My students are 4-5 years of age. They come from a variety of economic statuses. The majority are from medium income families. Half of my students are African American and half are Caucasian. The children spend the majority of their day with us at school. One of their favorite (and most crucial) times of the day is story time. Story time promotes listening and comprehension skills, as well as model for children how to be a fluent reader, and so much more! I am always shocked when I find out that many of my students are not being read to at home. I have found from talking to parents that many are busy with older children's homework or activities or simply just don't know where to start! I want to help my students and their families to work to become successful readers!
