I teach full day 4 year old preschool in the North Lawndale area of Chicago, Illinois. At my school, 98.3% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch (according to our 2013 IL State Report Card). Most of my students come from homes that do not have very many books, art materials or educational toys. They seldom visit museums or places of interest, outside of school, that offer enrichment activities. I enjoy offering my kids the activities and experiences many don't have outside of school. My need to do this is from watching them experience new things - Shedd Aquarium to dress-up clothes, seeing live performances to putting on their own play, Lincoln Park Zoo to even checking out books from our classroom library. Many times, it's the little things that mean so much more than many of us can imagine!!
