My class consists of seven fourth graders with autism on five different reading levels. My students face many challenges day in and day out at home and in school. They live in a city with a high rate of poverty with the majority of students in the school receiving free or reduced price lunch. My students work very hard every day to develop their reading skills, but struggle because resources and funds are limited. The children's books that are in the classroom come from the dollar store. Therefore, they are not leveled to student ability making it very difficult to develop the comprehension skills that they so desperately need.
