My students live in a high poverty neighborhood in New York. Most are either Latino, or African-American, or African. Many students come from homes where their parents have little education themselves. Nearly 20% of our student body lives in domestic violence shelters or homeless shelters. Despite these odds, my students are eager to learn and enjoy coming to school.
