My students are a bright and curious group of seventh graders in Arizona. They crave the ability to examine and critique events from the past. But they lack the resources and foundational knowledge to do so. Each of my students understand the importance of education and the value of knowledge. That is why they are so driven and passionate. They each have their own ambitious goals that range from becoming a neurosurgeon to serving in the Marines. They have all expressed the importance of family in their lives, and that they hope to help their families and community one day. Many of my students come from Spanish speaking homes, so visuals are absolutely essential. Visuals allow them to connect to and process historical events in meaningful ways. Visuals are also universal and transcend any language barriers in my classroom. Sometimes they don't understand exactly what I am trying to teach them or why it is important. But as one of my students said, "When I see it, I believe it!"
