My 3rd grade students attend an urban school in Rhode Island. Our school has students from grades kindergarten to grade 5. Our maximum class size is 26. We are a Title 1 school where over 90% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Most of my students come from low socio-economic households where English is the second language. I teach science to 52 students from 2 3rd grade classes. My students have diverse academic abilities and various levels of English language proficiency. Although my students have many challenges, science motivates them to learn and cooperate with their classmates. They are inquisitive and love to learn through exploration.
