My school consists of an array of backgrounds. There is no majority (51%+) in terms of race/ethnicity, however it does lean more towards an African-American majority. In the school about 72% of students are on free or reduced lunch, making us 3% shy of being a Title I school with access to funding. My students are very different when it comes to their backgrounds. However, organization is something that most lack. In school there is a lot of structure throughout the day to ease transitions and tensions thanks to the leadership within our school. Our school is centered in a large yet disconnected community which makes it very difficult for community support of school programs and initiatives.
