Our school serves a variety of students on different levels of income. However, many students do not have Internet or computers at home or even the time in the evenings, to reinforce their learning. My group of students is highly inquisitive and love to find additional ways to practice their skills. They thrive on competition! They have the chance to earn certificates on Mathletics and love getting a chance to earn a bronze, silver, or gold certificate. They compete against the other classrooms and want the chance to earn as many as the classrooms who have earned iPads through Donors Choose. On Reading Eggs they earn points to trade in to go "shopping" and change their avatars. This continues to motivate them to read more challenging stories and read a variety of fiction and informational text. The comprehension builds since they need to answer questions accurately before moving on. For my lower students, they have a chance to build on the phonics skills they need and advance.
