I have a rambunctious group of students in grade K-5. Many of my students are struggling readers, but with time and consistency they are developing confidence and exploring the joys of reading. There is not a book on my shelf they have not read. I usually reserve several books I ask my kids not to touch for sentimental reasons. However, because they have grown so much in their reading I had to throw my rule out of the window. In my ten years of teaching I have never seen a group kids who were more excited about reading. My heart is overjoyed when I hear students say,"here's one of our spelling words", or "I read my chapter book in one day". This year alone my students read over 1200 books and spent over 3,000 hours reading outside of the required reading program. It would give me great joy to add to our small classroom library and give our boys and girls the books they need.
