Given the choice, our students would select story time over almost any activity! I teach second grade, within a larger student learning community of approximately 120 students, grades Pre K-3. A rich diversity exists within the student population. The school consists of 62% white, 18% black, 15% Hispanic, and 5% other. The surrounding area is a unique mix of rural and expanding suburban communities. The small student enrollment at our school contributes to a close-knit and intimate learning community. This community of learners comes to us with a variety of language experiences ranging from limited literacy experiences to literature-rich home environments. To bridge the gap, teachers attempt to provide daily high-quality, literature rich experiences that are engaging and innovative.
