The mission of the Amani Public Charter School is to provide Mount Vernon, New York students in the 5th through 8th grade with the academic skills necessary to succeed in competitive high school programs, college and the career of their choice. Each academic year at Amani has 195 classroom days. In academic year 2014-15 Amani will offer grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 with approximately 80 students enrolled per grade. Nearly all Amani students reside in Mount Vernon, NY. Amani offers a standards-based, rigorous academic curriculum, with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy. Our program is based on best practices for middle schools and is heavily influenced by the No Excuses Model. This model has proven effective in raising student achievement levels in at-risk student populations.
