The students at our school are at below poverty level. The students are very motivated to do their best in all subjects. The majority of my students are Native American. The school is a k-12 school with about 320 students and is located in a poor rural area. Hands-on activities capture the students' interest and make learning relevant. My students love geometry lessons where we measure to find perimeter, area, and volume. Calculators become a very important tool when teaching these lessons. The TI-15 will be very effective for correct answers so that the student can see the numbers they are entering in the calculator. The major industry in our parish we live in is logging.
