My school is a very unique place. We are in rural location in New Mexico bordering an Native American reservation. My student population is 85% Native American and 13% Hispanic. Along with a culturally diverse student population, we are dealing with high poverty, homelessness, a transient culture and a high drop out rate; this is exemplified by our school offering 100% of the students free breakfast and lunch. In spite of dealing with high poverty and a large non-English speaking population, we are showing very good growth. In my 4 years as a math teacher, I have seen my students improve from the worst in the district to number 2 in the district. This shows that my student are poor but very curious and hardworking.
