I am a high school moderate/severe special education teacher in the far east bay area. This year I have 9 fantastic students with severe learning disabilities. My students receive functional academics with a big emphasis on daily living skills as most of them have plateaued on academic skills. The students are very hard working and take pride in all activities done in the classroom. We cook daily in our classroom that only has a sink, a microwave and mini fridge. Students learn to make simple snacks and meals that they can prepare on their own. When we cook, we cook as a whole group taking turns sharing items. Having more cooking equipment will give all students a more hands on opportunity to cook. With three sets of cooking materials, my staff and I can run small cooking groups giving individual attention to all the unique learners in my room.
