My students are mostly low income and minority children. Our state, California, keeps cutting our funding. Our literacy books are over ten years old and our next book adoption is not till 2018! Due to their age and lack of resources to replace them, we can't send them home with the kids to read for homework. Children in high income areas have plenty to read at home, but our children need a helping hand!
