Many of my students have no real-life experience with the magic that is our oceans. Other than watching "The Little Mermaid" or "Aquaman", my students do not have a working knowledge of what happens in the ocean and how important it is. I have partnered with the classroom teachers in my building so that I can help teach kids about life in the ocean. My experience as a student has shaped me into the teacher I am today. I was not an auditory learner, I needed to see and feel something for true understanding. Many of my students are just like I was a long time ago. Teaching about the jelly fish and their luminescence is lovely, but when the students see it and even create it, that will really enhance the learning! Unfortunately, our school district is struggling financially. Our school is running on one third of last years budget, which was half of the budget from the previous year. Suffice to say, there is no money in the pot to get anything "not necessary".
