This year I am beginning to create a flexible learning classroom. This includes not only assignments based on student need and individualization but in the seating arrangements and seating options. I have worked to eliminate student desks and create centers with various seating options ranging from stools to small cushioned chairs. The materials requested help to continue to enhance the Flexible Learning environment by providing an area where students who work better on the floor can sit comfortably with a short table as they work collectively. The more seating options available the more options students have to maximize their learning in an area they learn best. By providing an environment that allows students to spread out and choose which seating works best for them, their academic growth has already increased. They are no longer confined to metal chairs with no flexibility. I find this Flexible Learning environment has also given students a voice in choosing where and how they learn best. In addition they have learned that sometimes this location is not the same as their peer group and that is ok. I have already enjoyed seeing students be in charge of their learning and make choices for their seating based on where they are most productive.
