This past school term, my students and I were given a space of our own. For the first time, I was lucky to have my own Theater Arts classroom. Being able to bring my students to our very own special place where they were able to collaborate, plan, rehearse, and perform was truly amazing. As a Theater Arts teacher, the best feeling is watching the magic happen when my students are working together in small groups independently creating their own performances. We take what we have worked on together as a group and then they apply those important skills to their own masterpieces. That is why this project is of such importance. Now that we have our very own Theater Arts room, I want to be able to design it in the most functional way possible. Little by little, I hope to create a room that will meet the needs of my students. During each unit, we work together as a whole group learning how to create the final product. Then my students are placed in smaller performance groups where the real fun begins. The children spread out into different parts of the room to brainstorm and plan their performances. Having this table in our space will enhance the flexible seating options and will make the students feel special as they join together to express their creative ideas. And of course, the electric sharpener will help keep our pencils as sharp as their minds.
