Welcome! This is our music classroom in a small suburb 25 miles outside of Chicago. For the first time in several years, my students have enjoyed hands-on music making experience playing drums, boom whackers, rhythm sticks and resonator bells. My students have enjoyed learning songs and playing instruments to accompany them. They are also learning how to read music, associating symbols to sounds and responding to various musical directions in order to achieve a solid foundation of basic musicianship. The student population contains 64% Hispanic students and 32% African American. 97% of the school qualifies as low income and the whole population qualifies for free and reduced lunch. Playing music is a way for students to forget about worries they may be facing in school or home life and supports all the concepts taught in core classes.
