I recognize the importance of exposing children to technology at an early age and the substantial benefits of engaging students in technology-integrated literacy activities. Currently, my Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students take turns using my personal iPad and are always thrilled when it is their day to engage in developing individual reading skills while using the device. I am requesting 3 class iPads and laptop stands for my students so that these important literacy experiences can become more frequent and all students can participate. More than half of my students do not have access to this sort of technology at home and relish their use at school. With iPads, my students will be able to use rigorously researched apps that enhance phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension- all of which are essential in order to become a proficient reader.
