My students have communication disorders that impact their education. They attend school in an urban Michigan school district. Many live in poverty and many come from homes where they are not exposed to language-rich interactions with adults. Many are also English Language Learners. These children need speech therapy that engages them and enriches their language skills so they can be successful in school and gain the skills they will need for adulthood. Using technology to create projects allows my students to develop higher order thinking skills and provides opportunities for exposure to new vocabulary. These projects make learning fun and allow us to use our language skills in a realistic situation, which is so important for inspiring the students to learn.
