As a first-year teacher, I want to begin building an eclectic classroom library of YA novels. With these books, my students will be able to conduct literature circles with their classmates. It's a mini bookclub of sorts. They will then be tasked with reading their choice novel and meeting for small discussions with classmates who chose the same book. Students will get a chance to read books that they are interested in while still meeting academic standards. They will get the opportunity to make connections to their lives. I've noticed that my students are willing to share personal facets of their lives when they feel moved. These books will hopefully move my students to share more often. These novels can help my students be confident in being their authentic selves. My goal is for my students to find their voice and use it!
