Making math real and fun, is the best way to hook my students. Math is not a chore, it becomes a learning experience that they look forward to year after year. I teach 3rd, 4th and 5th grade at-risk students. Many are English language learners. I would like to have them create culinary masterpieces, using both standard and metric measurement. They will learn combinations by creating their own pizzas with toppings. They will learn to double and triple recipes and grasp the concept of fractions. This will be an unforgettable experience for my students. I am sure it will build their self-confidence and benefit them as adults.
