Tech/STEM class is a new addition to my school, and is already a very enriching class for all students in every grade. In my classroom, over 465 students in grades K-4 will design, build, manipulate, and much more... all in the name of science, technology, engineering, and math. It has been reported that 45% of high school students are not ready for college-level math, and 30% are not ready for college-level science (ACT, 2011). By coming to STEM class, the passion for these topics is ignited right at the start of their schooling. Most students look forward to tech/STEM class each week because they know awaiting for them will be a unique, thought provoking challenge. In this room, we have built tables using only newspaper and tape, will be designing computer games, programming robots, and watching animals grow right before our eyes. With projects like these, how can you not fall in love with STEM?
