My students attend a very old rural school among many newer, technologically advanced schools. Our neighbors are a field and a graveyard. Many students are children of migrant workers who face moving with the crops, therefore leaving their child to start over at new schools often. Many of my students are also second language learners who have a difficult time understanding the language of our textbooks. Our school was originally intended to hold a population of around 200 students. We currently educate over 650 students, kindergarten through sixth grade, a year. Our campus is a collection of mismatched portables that have been moved from schools that have been rebuilt with permanent buildings-many that are younger than our school! Despite the economic hardships of our school and our students, we have many high achievers and a positive morale that makes our students strive to be successful.
