Every classroom, from PreK through 2nd grade, usually has a reading/story corner for the students to come together and read a story, sing a song, or do some circle time activity. The one important item that is a necessity for this area is a large rug for the students to sit on. Sitting on an area rug is much more comfortable than just sitting on a tile floor. We used to have a rug, but during the summer cleaning process, it fell apart, due to the longtime use through the years. The importance of a classroom rug is an essential part of any early childhood classroom, emotionally and academically. Many of my colleagues have told me of all the possibilities that are open through Donorschoose. So, here I am. To have a large decorative rug in my second grade classroom would serve several functions. First, it would make the classroom appealing to my wonderful learners. Next, it would provide an area for the students to sit comfortably when we were going to listen to a story or come together for morning meetings. Lastly, it would give my students and myself a place that is a little less formal and little more personal so that we as a class can grow together during the school year.
