Research has shown that children with Autism respond well to a multi-sensory learning approach as they tend to benefit from visual aids, auditory feedback, and kinesthetic learning. If we are able to obtain the Surface Pro laptop, some of my low functioning students will be able to utilize the touch screen capability of the device to communicate during therapy and others will be able to utilize read-aloud devices of books to help develop their social pragmatic skills. In my practice, I have seen most of my students utilize electronic devices to communicate their needs. Some of them may use a simple picture-exchange application to express their basic needs such as using the bathroom, wanting a reinforcer, or expressing the need to move on to a different activity. Other students who are higher functioning may utilize an electronic device to use read-aloud books or explore different topics of interest. Thus, helping them develop effective coping skills.
