My students live and attend school in an urban environment. The school has a nice campus with old-growth trees and a large playground, but it is also located near a busy street adjacent to a freeway. My students are Latino and African-American, and all of them are motivated learners. The majority of our school days are devoted to Language Arts and Math, and although the students sing on a daily basis, there are definitely not as many activities in Social Studies, Science, P.E. and Art, as there should be. This is the primary reason I have submitted this request for arts and crafts resources. My students deserve more opportunities and supplies to broaden the creative side of their young minds. Having more arts and crafts activities can be deeply enriching for these children, especially since arts education has largely been cut in my school district.
