My students have learning disabilities that hinder their academic progress. They're more than capable of reading at grade level, but it has taken them longer than many of their peers. Unfortunately, our middle school does not have the lower level books my students need to help develop the skills good readers require. My students struggle to keep up with the middle school texts, and need the opportunity to access stories at their current reading level in order to build their way up. My students are bright, energetic, and eager to learn. They've faced many setbacks in their lives, but they still come to school each day hoping to get better at reading. They've overcome challenges both in and outside of school to come as far as they have, and they must grow as readers in order to continue to succeed in high school.
