"From the boats and on the planes, they're coming to America!" So many of us can relate to the song America by Neil Diamond. My family, just like the families of my students, has for the most part also immigrated to America. So many things to learn and parents who want to help, but can't. My children are eager to learn, but are faced with the daunting task of not having help at home. Everything they get, they get in our classroom. Having a dictionary at home would be amazing. They could use it for checking their spelling, mastering the standards of dictionary guide words, and looking up vocabulary words that they are not familiar with. Every child and every home needs supplies to do the basics and I want my students to have these.
