My school represents a widely diverse student population. Roughly 70% come from homes in which English is the second language, and the majority of students' travel to and from school via public transportation. My students are like most high school students. The cell phone has become the preferred vehicle to communicate with others and social media has become their best friend. My students are good kids and enjoy school. Many are student-athletes and the life lessons (teamwork, healthy competitiveness, respect for each other) that are embedded in organized sports, can be clearly observed in the classroom.
