My students are two classrooms of inner city public school students who come from very diverse backgrounds. Many of my students are minorities and we have a large immigrant population of students who speak little to no English. My students are the youngest students in the elementary buildings. The majority of these students come from alternative family situations such as single parents or relatives as guardians. The poverty level is very high, with all students getting free meals at school. For all of their struggles, most students are excited to be at school, learning new things through exploration and play. Each day provides them with new experiences to learn physically, emotionally, cognitively, and socially.
