I work in a 12:1:3 self-contained special education classroom that has students in grades K-3 with varying disabilities that include Autism, visual impairments, cognitive delays, and emotional issues. Most of my students are non-verbal or have severe delays in their language. Their abilities range from severely to slightly delayed. We strive to teach the students to become independent, to have functional skills around daily routines and structure, and academics. My students face communication and social challenges everyday as they struggle to relate to their peers and adults in their environment.
