Would you rather be lectured to or complete a hands on activity? Research has proven students who do something, learn something. As a teacher, it is important to provide hands on learning opportunities so that children learn from what they are doing and not from what they are hearing. It is equally important to cater to the learning styles' of your students to maximize their potential. I currently teach fifth graders in a high-need community. These students live in poverty and have very little resources that allow them to get involved in and take ownership of their education.
