Back in 1971, when I was a first grader; my eyes filled with excitement when my teacher used flannel board characters to bring stories alive in my classroom. Today, I want to share the same excitement of the classics with my first grade students; by utilizing tactile resources I was exposed to that enabled me to love literacy and language. This is important to help those that do not have mastery of the English language experience the wonderful world of literacy and characters that represent many cultures from around the world. As a visual arts school, it is my intent to have students perform reader's theatre scripts through the use of tactile tools to solidify comprehension of literacy standards such as key details and events.
