By the numbers my students are over 90% minority and over 90% low socioeconomic. Many of them will be the first to go on to college in their family. Also there are a significant number who are in foster care, making middle school an even more challenging experience when compounded with the circumstances that led to their being taken from their families. These are the students public education is meant to benefit, and we from them. I choose to stay at Piute because of the students; they are curious, able minded and capable of surpassing my expectations everyday, and they often do. Many of my fellow teachers and I are persistently, collaboratively and creatively designing and redesigning lessons and projects that are engaging both academically and socio-emotionally to guide our students on their way to being responsible citizens in the 21st century. My part is to have students iterative design
