As part of the goals for the students at the middle school where I've taught for 20 years, we offer students an experience known as PIE, which stands for Patriot Intervention & Enrichment. Students receive academic help (intervention) or have the opportunity to explore unique life goals, passions and develop interpersonal skills (enrichment). The PIE enrichment session I am offering is a class entitled Drop A Beat. In it, students explore using Garage Band on their iPads to create, edit, and produce original elctronic dance music and hip hop beats. These items will allow my students to record vocal tracks and create melodies using musical instruments in a quality usable to produce music tracks. As a secondary benefit, I (as well as other teachers) will be able to use the equipment to record voice overs when producing video based lessons and activities such as fipped lessons (i.e. PlayPosit), narrated presentations, etc.
