Our middle school of around 400, is in a rural Tennessee area and is populated with kids who live in the country as well as those who ride the bus from inner city Jackson. There is a good racial mix at our school and it's remarkable how everyone works to love and accept one another. We are a high risk school where many of the students live in families who are below poverty level and who also read significantly below grade level. Only 2 out of 10 of our students read on grade level. It is my heart's desire to change this. I have worked over the last few years to build my class library and create more interest in non-fiction and content area reading. As I formerly taught 2nd and 3rd grades, I have some non fiction books but most are below grade level. If you love books as much as I do, please help!
