The magic carpet is the heart of the classroom! It was where students communicate and elaborate on their thoughts, ideas, and experiences. The magic carpet is where students get to know each other and build trust, mutual respect, and deepen their thinking and understanding of themselves, others, and the world. It is a place where students build upon their existing knowledge as they listen to the thoughts and ideas of others, learn new information, and create shared experiences. The magic carpet is where the magic begins! Over time, all students learn that their thoughts, opinions, and ideas are valuable. They learn effective communication skills that can be used in all areas of life. As students gather as a collective community on the carpet each day, they will learn and practice valuable communication skills such as active listening, taking turns, speaking clearly, offering feedback, and building upon the ideas of others. They will use newly acquired vocabulary as they communicate for a variety of purposes. Each student will have an opportunity to shine and share their inner magic with others.
