For the majority of my students English is a second language. Some of them are brand new to the county and struggle with basic communication. In addition, I teach collaborative classes with a high number of special ed students in each. The students are full of enthusiasm and eager to learn despite any language or learning challenges they may face. Nevertheless, biology is a subject matter full of new terminology and concepts that are often difficult for students to grasp. This problem is intensified when the learning environment lacks the tools necessary to help them succeed.
