I teach a very diverse group of students, located in a low income area. 52% of the student in my class are bilingual. These student enjoy learning, whether it is a new language, numbers, or the pure joy of reading a sentence or story for the first time. My students are on task almost every minute we explore using computers both in our classroom (through the classroom projection system), or in the computer lab. They enjoy attending the other first grade classes during rotation time, when they are able to use our school's iPod touches. Having a set of pod touches for small group time would be very beneficial to my students. Jones notes the use of technology builds critical thinking skills, and increased excitement in both teachers and learners (2007). Putting today's technology in the hands of learners not only increases student's math and reading skills now, but also introduces students to the path of lifelong learning using the tools of the times.
