Our school is an urban middle school with an increasingly growing Hispanic population. I teach two different Spanish classes: one is Regular Spanish I for students who are just beginning to learn, and the other is Heritage Spanish I for students whose home language is Spanish. Even though my students have differing ability levels, they all need help developing literacy in Spanish. Most of my 8th graders are very motivated to learn, but they lack the resources they need to get the most out of their education. I hope that by providing them with Spanish book choices of different genres and ability levels, they will be able to apply what they learn in my class and grow in their Spanish reading skills.
