I teach an amazing group of third grade students who strive to become well educated individuals. My students are unique in the sense that they are dual language learners. Majority have been in this program since pre-k and have become one big family. They truly care about one another and want others to succeed as much as themselves. Dual language learners are taught in their native language (either Spanish or English)and also in their second language (whether it be Spanish or English). These students have to work extra hard in order to be bilingual when exiting the program. It amazes me to see these students becoming fluent in their second language as well as their native one. They are constantly working together as each English language learner is assigned a Spanish language learner partner. They are taught to work with their partners on everything but test. In a sense they learn how to teach each other!
