My children are very diverse. My classroom is 98% ESL and my kids come from every country imaginable! We represent the Congo, Burma, Afghanistan, China, Thailand, Ethiopia, Nepal and more. My school houses many students that are currently in need of refugee services. Many of the kids have only been in the country for 1 or 2 years and they are excited to learn and are excited to be in class every single day. Their eyes light up at a new book. My kids have an unparalleled passion for learning and are very appreciative for every single opportunity to learn. Although they deal with countless circumstances outside of the classroom and often times cannot understand, literacy serves as a bridge for them and a classroom carpet is a visual of literacy as a bridge.
