"I don't read fake books," said one student while refusing to read during independent reading time. He is not alone. Too often, our students fail to find books with characters that they can connect to, which makes it challenging for them to engage as readers of fiction. Our students amaze us each and every day, not just with their hard work and consistent achievement, but with their dynamic personalities. They are truly a special group of fourth graders. One of their favorite activities is to write letters to their teachers in their reading journals - teachers write them back every week with questions and responses.

About my class
