I teach 18 bright-eyed Kindergarten students in Florida. Our school is a Title 1 school, where 63% of our student population are on Free/Reduced Lunch. In my classroom I have 70% of my students who qualify for this program. If you've ever met a 5 year old, you know that they are like little sponges, always asking questions and wanting to know more! But the one thing I have come to notice is their love for listening to a story. We currently have 2 listening centers in my classroom, but I do not have a large variety of books or good quality headphones. Yet, these centers are always the most popular with the students and they'll even sit and listen to the same story over and over again. It is something about a story being read-aloud that they are completely mesmerized by. Their love of books grows each and every day and my hope is that with these new materials it will only flourish!
