Education should be the great equalizer. My students count on that being the case. Most of them are from immigrant or refuge families where English is still being learned. They are at the end of high school and are expected to have learned all twelve years of the United States system of education in sometimes as little as 3 years. It is a daunting task, especially when I ask them to learn another language called science.
