Our inspiring, dynamic, and diverse students are breaking barrier after barrier in Washington State. Eighty-seven percent of our 7th graders met or exceeded the state standard in writing; 84% of our 8th graders met standard in science, and 78% of our 6th graders met standard in math. Our students are full of joy and love to learn. At a school where 77% of students receive free and reduced-price lunch, and 95% of students are of color, these achievements are clear demonstrations that truly all children can learn. While our students are rightly proud of their accomplishments, we know they can do even better. Our students join us in 6th grade with a wide range of mathematics abilities. By 8th grade, many of our students have improved in math, but only 61% of our 8th graders met standard in math last year. Because 9th grade algebra is a crucial gatekeeper to success in high school, we must reach 100% proficiency in math by the end of 8th grade.
